1st Rijswijk Dutch Textile Biennial, 2009
Preview: 'The Museum will launch a series of textile Art exhibitions, beginning with selected Dutch artists, with plans to hold it on an international level for 2011. For the event the organisers looked beyond the boundaries of craft disciplines in search of artists who deal sensitively with the theme of textiles, examining the material and/or textile techniques. The relationship of textiles to femininity also comes under scrutiny as in the crocheted figures by Marita Kratz and the embroidered women figures by Hinke Schreuders. Jeroen Vinken and Jan Koen Lomans use electronically controlled Jacquard weaving. Wilma Kuil plays with floral textile images while C.S. Wertheim manipulates her own portraits on fabric and paper to create surrealist images. The artists' selection makes travelling to Ryswyk worth while.' published in ETN newsletter 3/2009 by Beatrijs Sterk, chief-editor of Textile Forum photographs: left - cover of catalogue showing detail of object 'neurotube' middel - with Nancy Pigmans and curator Anne Kloosterboer during the opening in the beautiful gardens of the museum right - DVD of film 'Weaving Proxyclones' catalogue: paperback, 60 pages, about 110 colour photographs, 20cm x 26 cm text: G.van Ham, Dutch language price: 17.50 euro published by Museum Ryswyk www.museumryswyk.nl www.ETN-net.org
